The Port of Brownsville itself has been a cornerstone of this economic surge. Celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2026, the port has evolved into a diversified logistics hub supporting steel, energy, construction, and space industries. In 2024, it recorded $12.1 billion in exports and $10.6 billion in imports, handling over 28 million tons of cargo. These figures underscore the port’s expanding influence on energy, manufacturing, and industrial supply chains.

City Manager Helen Ramirez emphasized the importance of this collaborative approach, stating, “‘One City’ is the philosophy that working collaboratively—internally with the City and externally with our nonprofits, churches, and businesses—is the way we accelerate. And we are more successful as a city.”
